A HISTORY OF EMBROIDERY: HAND AND LOCK AT THE V&A

An embroidery firm of distinction, Hand & Lock has adorned haute couture from Christian Dior to Hardy Amies as well as gowns for the Queen and Princess Diana. Director Alastair Macleod draws on his insider knowledge as he explores the history of embroidery from its early developments to seminal works (such as The Bayeux Tapestry) and contemporary examples. There will also be original Hand & Lock samples on display, as Alastair reveals the intricate techniques involved in creating beautiful lace, cords and costume embellishments.
