Clothes for men and women, vintage accessories, jewellery, up-cycled / reworked vintage pieces and not forgetting beautiful cupcakes and a bloody lovely cup of tea.

CLARE WOODS AT THE HEPWORTH WAKEFIELD GALLERY



This new exhibition by Clare Woods will explore her interest in the power and history of rock formations in the British landscape, and its various manifestations in the works of artists such as Hepworth, Moore, Sutherland, Piper and Nash. Her large-scale paintings (approximately 10 metres in length) use layers of enamel paint on aluminium. The paintings are often visually ambiguous and claustrophobic in their detail, combining abstraction and controlled figuration, held together by webs of paint and luscious reflective surfaces.

20 YEARS OD DAZED AND CONFUSED AT SOMERSET HOUSE



Dazed & Confused has been a go-to reference for style and culture since its explosive launch in London in 1991 by Jefferson Hack and renowned photographer Rankin. Work featured includes ground-breaking photography by Rankin, Nick Knight, David Sims and Terry Richardson, specially commissioned projects by artists Jake & Dinos Chapman, Damien Hirst and Sam Taylor-Wood, cutting edge fashion pages by stylists Katie Grand, Katy England, Alister Mackie and Nicola Formichetti, and specially selected designs by fashion giants Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood and Gareth Pugh.

THE PHOTOGRAPHS GALLERY AT THE V&A



On 24 October 2011, the V&A’s new Photographs Gallery will open to the public.
The Photographs Gallery will draw upon the V&A’s internationally renowned collection of photographs, and will chronicle the history of photography from 1839 up to the 1960s. In 1858, the V&A became the first museum to exhibit photographs, and the new Photographs Gallery is able to showcase some of the most technically brilliant and artistically accomplished photographs in its collection. Temporary displays, primarily showcasing contemporary photography, will be shown in the V&A’s existing photographs gallery.

GLAMOUR OF THE GODS: NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY



Glamour of the Gods is a celebration of Hollywood portraiture from the industry's 'Golden Age', the period 1920 to 1960. From Greta Garbo and Clark Gable to Audrey Hepburn, James Dean and Marilyn Monroe. Featuring over 70 photographs, most of which are exquisite vintage prints displayed for the first time, the exhibition is drawn from the extraordinary archive of the John Kobal Foundation and demonstrate photography's decisive role in creating and marketing the stars central to the Hollywood mystique.

LOST IN LACE



The Crafts Council and Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery (BMAG) will work together to deliver a major contemporary craft exhibition in autumn 2011. This exhibition demonstrates why artists are getting into lace and explores the relationship between traditionalmaterial and space with a host of leading artisits creating amazing instillations. The exhibition called Lost in Lace will take place at the Gas Hall at BMAG from the 29 October 2011 to 19 February 2012. (www.bmag.org)

The Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, closed on Monday (August 8, 2011), after becoming one of the most successful shows in the museum's history. Jane Avril, the dancer, was one of the stars of the Moulin Rouge in the 1890s. Known for her alluring style and exotic persona, her fame was assured by a series of dazzlingly inventive posters designed by the artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. This landmark exhibition is the first to celebrate this remarkable creative partnership which has come to define the world of the Moulin Rouge. Bringing together Toulouse-Lautrec's most famous paintings, posters and prints from international collections.

LUCIAN FREUD 1922 - 2011




Lucian Freud, considered one of the leading contemporary figurative painters, died in his London home on Wednesday 20 July. Born on 8 December 1922, he died peacefully in his sleep, “far removed from the noise of the art world” according to gallery owner William Acquavella, who represented the artist.

MASTERS OF STYLE: CELEBRATING THE STORIES BEHIND ITALIAN FASHION

To mark the 150th anniversary of Italy’s unification, Masters of Style brings together six of Italy’s most influential fashion houses to celebrate the stories behind Italian fashion. Looking at defining moments from their advertising campaigns, Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Ferragamo, Gucci, Missoni and Prada will showcase a personally hand-picked selection of images from their collections and archives, bringing to life iconic style moments and offering an insight into the passion and influences behind their work.

The newly formed 'Essex Print Club' is opening its first pop up shop/gallery in Brightlingsea and will be selling all forms of printmaking and illustration from screen printed textiles and lino-cut prints to handmade books by a group of undergraduate or newly graduated students studying fine art and graphic media at Colchester School of Art, Design and Media. It is the first of its kind for quite some time, and promises to be an exciting start for 'Essex Print Club'

TRACEY EMIN: LOVE IS WHAT YOU WANT

Tracey Emin is one of Britain's most celebrated contemporary artists. This major survey exhibition covers every period of her career, revealing facets of the artist and her work that are often overlooked. The exhibition features painting, drawing, photography, textiles, video and sculpture, in works that are by turns tough, romantic, desperate, angry, funny and full of longing. Seldom-seen early works and recent large-scale installations are shown together with a new series of outdoor sculptures created especially for the Hayward Gallery.

When Nutters opened in 1969 on Savile Row, the staid and traditional world of bespoke tailoring entered a new era. Tommy Nutter, with master cutter Edward Sexton, combined up-to-the minute styling with classic techniques to create the brand that set the Row swinging. The shop - financed by Cilla Black, James Vallance White, and Beatles’ executive Peter Brown – opened up the experience of bespoke tailoring; catering to rock stars, artists and aristos who wanted to custom fit with the new shapes and details pioneered at Nutters.

NEW ONLINE EXHIBITION: YELLOW WALLPAPER



The Yellow Wallpaper has been curated by artist Tom Gallant and is centred on ‘Dress 09’ – a dress made in collaboration with fashion designer Marios Schwab that was acquired for the Crafts Council Collection in 2011. Its intricately cut surface and multiple layers prompted an investigation into the story behind its making.
Viewers of the exhibition can flick through Chinese papercuts, watch a piece from silhouette animator Lotte Reiniger’s 1926 film Prince Achmed, hear an interview with furniture maker Gareth Neal and see work in-depth by photographer Nick Waplington. And not forgetting, the beautifully crafted 'Dress 09', viewed in 360˚ rotation.

TOMMY NUTTER: REBEL ON THE ROW. FASHION AND TEXTILES MUSEUM



20TH MAY - 22ND OCTOBER
When Nutters opened in 1969 on Savile Row, the staid and traditional world of bespoke tailoring entered a new era. Tommy Nutter, with master cutter Edward Sexton, combined up-to-the minute styling with classic techniques to create the brand that set the Row swinging. The shop - financed by Cilla Black, James Vallance White, and Beatles’ executive Peter Brown – opened up the experience of bespoke tailoring; catering to rock stars, artists and aristos who wanted to custom fit with the new shapes and details pioneered at Nutters.

This exhibition not only explores the Nutter style but will also analyse the contribution of this legendary individual in the marketing and branding of a Savile Row company. A range of suits takes the viewer through the changes that Nutter introduced and will place his work in the social and historical context of the late 60s to the 1990s.

Open Tuesday to Saturday, 11am - 6pm.
Last Admissions 5.15pm.
Closed Sunday and Monday.
